9ct. gold & enamel Football League War Cup winner's medal 1939-40

Enamelled with an English rose and the initials FL, inscribed THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, 1939-40, WON BY WEST HAM UNITED F.C., AT WEMBLEY, A.C. DAVIS, DIRECTOR

During World War II a number of 'cup finals' were played. The first of these was an encounter between West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers at Wembley in 1939-40. A crowd of 42,399 watched the Hammers win 1-0 through a goal by Small.

Albert ("Bert") C. Davis was a famous Director of West Ham United. An engineer by profession, he had a long association with the Hammers. As a Director this was in two spells between 1900 to 1906, and 1923 to 1949.
